Packaging Technologist – Fixed Term

Job Purpose

To support packaging development and execution.

This role deals with a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to the following:

Own:

Responsible for end-to-end packaging creation
• Build and nurture relationships with MPM factories and printers globally.
• Liaising with factories and internal teams to build and finalise the scope.
• Liaising with Head of Procurement regarding B Corp initiatives/
• Briefing factories, requesting quotes, managing testing process and production of mockups. Some negotiation on packaging elements may be required.

Responsible for packaging die lines
• Scoping and assessment of die lines from factories and managing through across all pack formats.
• Liaising with artwork team to ensure brand guidelines are adhered to.
• Requesting print specs from printers and communicating to repro house.

Own and maintain packaging database:
• Ensure that accurate and timely collection of packaging data which fulfils our obligations (Technical set obligations and directs).
• Central point for all specification and substrate data.
• Own the collection of detailed substrate information from suppliers.
• Ensure packaging sustainability data is accurately maintained – ensuring we are meeting obligations and legal requirements.
• Work closely with departmental / project leads to support the collation of packaging data for regional obligations.

Sustainability/Packaging Innovation
• driving B Corp agenda from packaging perspective.
• driving recyclability, packaging reduction and sustainable solutions.
• tracking trends and insight to fuel next generation packaging.

Support:

• Retailer requirements and understanding shelf specifications and how these impact packaging suitability and development.
• Support Innovation team on the 3–5-year pipeline sufficiency and own the packaging requirements to deliver this effectively.
• Technical team with reviewing and updating packaging specifications.
• Sales team with data for retailer packaging submissions e.g., systems and websites.
• Supply Chain with non-regulatory packaging submissions e.g., Germany.
• Mock up development with factories and approval process.
• Supporting Head of Procurement onboarding of new packaging suppliers.

Shape:

• Packaging processes to ensure continuous improvement in manner and tools that effects the delivery of packaging.

Provide:

• Provide key reports for use within the company including, but not limited to:
– Progress with development of packaging.
– Plans, timescales, packaging development activity

• Any other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• IT literate including use of PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook – full training will be given on in house systems.
• Highly organised and can prioritise workloads.
• University degree or equivalent professional qualifications
• Packaging Technologist experience.
• Attention to detail – ensures accurate delivery of information and collateral in a timely and effective manner.
• Personal Learning – Seeks feedback and reacts / learns from experience.
• Effective Communicator – ability to communicate updates and issues.
• Commercial Acumen – Understands the impact of costs and has a focus on profit when driving sales growth.

Desirable

• Ability to think creatively and innovatively using insight to drive activity.
• Understanding of packaging development processes from within the FMCG industry.
• Ability to analyse results from which can be used to come up with suitable solutions that can solve product related issues.
